Damming the stream on Mill
Bay |
The beaches along the Kingsbridge Estuary are
famously sandy and excellent for families. They include:
Mill Bay, Sunny Cove and Ditch End on the east side; and North
Sands, South Sands, Stare Hole Bay (or Starehole Bay) on the
west – see our Beach Guide in our detailed information
(accessed via this form) for more
particulars.
Getting over to the east side of the estuary is easy - just
take the Salcombe Ferry that goes to
East Portlemouth from the Ferry Steps in
Salcombe. The journey takes just a few minutes and in high /
mid season, the ferries run continuously all day (they still
run all day in low season, but less frequently). For the
western beaches, the ferries go from Whitestrand, and not quite
so frequently during the day (and not at all in low
season).
Beaches outside the Kingsbridge Estuary need
to be driven to – but are still only a few minutes away.
Again, for information on the best of these (Soar Mill Cove,
Hope Cove, Thurlestone / South Milton Sands, Bantham and Burgh
Island / Bigbury), you can access our Beach Guide via this
form.
