Salcombe and
Walking

If you like walking, Salcombe is a wonderful
place to stay. It is on the South West Coastal Path and you can
walk directly from Buckley Cottage, through Salcombe, out past
Overbecks and beyond to enjoy the dramatic views of the estuary
from above Starehole Bay. Carrying on, along the steeply
undulating path, you'll pass Soar Mill Cove and to Bolberry
(with the Port Light pub - good value pub meals), or further
on, Hope Cove.
If you take the East Portlemouth ferry, you can
walk along the coast to Gara and further east towards Prawle
and Start Point – depending how energetic you are!
For shorter walks, try walking round Snapes
Point, which is about 20 minutes walk from the cottage along a
single-track road that ends at Snapes Manor. The National Trust
owns much of the land in this area and you get breath-taking
all-round views of the Kingsbridge Estuary. The photo above
left shows the view towards the mouth of the Estuary looking
south from Snapes.
About half an hour away, you reach the southern
boundary of Dartmoor and the infinite walking opportunities
there.
At the cottage, we have a selection of books of
local walks, for all abilities and tastes, to help you find one
that suits. We also having some plans of favourite
Salcombe walks directly from the cottage in our detailed
information, accessible via this form.
